Token-2022 on Solana
Token-2022 adds programmable features to Solana tokens at the program level. SolanaForge lets you create Token-2022 mints with extensions — including transfer hooks — without writing code.

When should you use Token-2022?
- You need a protocol-level transfer fee instead of a tax contract.
- You need logic on every transfer via a transfer hook.
- You are issuing credentials, memberships or compliance-gated assets.
- You want metadata stored directly in the mint account.
- Use classic SPL instead when maximum DEX and wallet compatibility matters most.

Frequently asked questions
What is Token-2022?
Token-2022 (Token Extensions) is Solana's newer token program. It is compatible with the original SPL Token instructions and adds optional extensions configured when the mint is created.
Can I add extensions after creating the token?
Most mint extensions must be chosen at creation and cannot be added later. Plan your extensions before you sign.
Do all wallets and DEXs support Token-2022?
Major Solana wallets display Token-2022 tokens, but support for specific extensions such as transfer hooks and transfer fees differs between DEXs and aggregators. Check your target venues first.
Should I use Token-2022 for a memecoin?
Usually not. A classic SPL token has the widest compatibility. Use Token-2022 when you need a specific extension such as a built-in transfer fee.
